Backbrief Site Check

See why AI assistants do not cite your site. Measure what changes when you fix it.

Site Check asks the AI assistants you choose the questions your buyers ask, and records which sources they cite instead of you. For each gap it names a likely cause and shows the evidence. Your builder gets a fix list tied to those questions. Then Site Check re-runs the same questions so you can compare before and after. Buyers often call this work AEO or GEO.

  • For each question: who the assistants cited instead of you, and why your site was not cited, with the evidence
  • A fix list for your builder. Each fix names the questions it targets and the check that proves it was made
  • A re-run of the identical questions, with before and after side by side

See the sample report: a real run on backbrief.ai, dated 2026-10-13.

Runs inside Claude Code, Anthropic’s coding assistant. You need it installed and signed in, and a project folder.

Results are directional. Site Check promises no ranking, citation, traffic or sales. A pass is not a guarantee. It means no confident weakness was found against the checks that ran.

All sales are final: refund policy and license terms

One finding from the sample run

Site Check 0.2.0 ran on backbrief.ai, Backbrief’s own site, on 2026-10-13. Prompt P2 asked Perplexity: “Is there a Claude Code tool that checks my website before launch?” In all three repeats it cited github.com/bzsasson/pre-launch-audit-skill and never backbrief.ai.

Cause found
Cause 2 (Answer): the answer is buried. On 2026-10-13, no page on the site said, in a heading and the sentence after it, that Site Check checks a website before launch inside Claude Code. The nearest passage was the command line “/site-check The full check on a site or landing page”, under a page framed around AI citation.
Evidence
The Perplexity answer (repeat 1, 13:18 ET) opened: “a third-party Claude Code skill called Pre-Launch Website Audit that does exactly that”. On 2026-10-13, grep -i launch over /site-check returned nothing.
Fix, as listed
Add to /site-check a heading that names the job and a first sentence that answers it in plain words. Owner decision, since it states what the product is for. The re-check proves the passage exists, not that any assistant will cite it.

The answer engine ran through a signed-in session, and the report says so. This fix was made on 2026-10-14: the heading “Check a website before launch” below. The recheck follows once the other fixes are made. Read the whole sample report.

What it never does

Site Check reads, queries the engines you name, and reports. It does not build or redesign your site, edit a file on a live site, change robots or canonicals, submit a form, click a purchase control, deploy, send, publish or sign. Each change to your site is a line on the fix list for you or your builder. The sources it finds are a research list, and it contacts none of them. It suggests no paid placement and no manufactured mentions. It cannot make an assistant cite you. It does not state what the law requires in a named place; those points become questions for a licensed professional. It gives analysis, not advice. It promises no ranking, citation, traffic or sales.

How it works

Each stage files its output in your project folder. Baseline, diagnose and fix run in /site-check or /aeo-baseline. The re-run is /aeo-recheck.

Baseline
You give a URL, the engines to test, the market and language, and the competitors to track. Site Check builds a fixed set of buyer questions from real phrasings, each with its source. It runs every question on every engine you name, repeated at least as many times as the minimum you set. Where your Claude Code session can reach an assistant, it runs the question itself; where it cannot, you run the question there and paste the answer, and the record says which. It records whether each answer mentioned you and whether it cited a page of yours as two separate facts, plus every source the answer drew on, whether or not you appeared. The questions, engines, market, language, competitors and results go into a panel file, so the re-run uses the identical frame. Every number comes with its sample size, engine, market and date. An engine the run cannot reach, or too few repeats, reads NOT CHECKED.
Diagnose
For each question where your site was not cited, Site Check records who was cited instead and sorts the gap into a cause, with the evidence. The causes are in the next list.
Fix
Each AI-related fix names the questions it targets, the cause it addresses, and a check that proves the fix was made, such as a curl line or a page that now carries the answer. The list goes to whoever built the site. No fix comes with a promise that citations will change.
Re-run
Run /aeo-recheck (or /geo-recheck) with the earlier report and its panel file. Site Check first checks each AI-related fix and marks it made, not made or NOT CHECKED. It then re-runs the identical panel on the same engines at the same repeat minimum, and gives you a before-and-after table for every question, with mention and citation on their own rows and the change in cited sources. For each fix it shows how the questions it targeted changed, and labels that change “moved with”, never “caused”. It flags an engine or model version change, drift in the panel, and too few repeats. The report suggests a re-run date, 30 days after the fixes by default. That is a product default, not a known interval for any engine to update. Site Check has no server and watches nothing, so you start the re-run.

The causes Site Check looks for.

Reach
The engines cannot get the page: an AI crawler blocked in robots.txt, a noindex, a page that is not indexed, content that appears only after JavaScript, or a missing page. The evidence comes from the search eligibility check.
Answer
No page of yours answers the question in a form an assistant can lift: no page, the answer buried, or no plain standalone answer. The evidence is your closest page, quoted, next to the cited page’s answer, quoted.
Corroboration
The cited answers lean on third-party sources such as reviews, directories, forums, lists or news, and you are absent from them. The evidence is the source URLs and whether you appear on each.
Accuracy
An answer states something wrong about your business. The evidence is the quote and the page of yours that should state the fact.

A cause is a diagnosis from the evidence gathered. It is not proof of how any assistant decides what to cite.

Check a website before launch

Site Check checks a website or landing page before launch, or before promoting it, inside Claude Code. The same run that asks the AI assistants checks the site itself. When visibility is poor, it records whether the search eligibility check passed before it blames anything else. Each check names its evidence and its rule for pass, fix or stop.

Search eligibility
Can search engines find and read the site? Pages that answer, content present in the raw HTML, robots.txt, noindex directives, canonicals, the sitemap, redirects, titles and descriptions, internal links, retired files that still answer, the policy for AI crawlers, and whether llms.txt is accurate. Speed runs through PageSpeed Insights. Search Console rows are checked when you give it access.
Structured data
Does the markup parse, match what a visitor sees, and point to profiles that exist? Ratings, review counts, prices and regulated fields go to you to confirm before the section can pass. Site Check does not treat markup as a way to get cited by AI assistants. Google states that no special markup is needed for its AI features.
Design
Does the page read as AI-generated? Typefaces, palette, repeated structure and copy, plus the cover-the-logo test: hide the name, read the headline, and see whether it could belong to any company. Font licenses and borrowed assets are flagged.
Conversion structure
One primary action, a hero that names the visitor’s problem or outcome, proof you can attribute, a plain offer and price, answers to the likely objections, the page at phone width, and whether header links give a visitor an exit.
Page claims
Every factual claim on the page: prices, counts, results, comparisons, guarantees, statements about third parties, legal or regulatory statements and testimonials. Each row carries a tag, a source and the date it was read.
Content decay
For an existing site with a Search Console export, it compares equivalent periods, separates a sitewide drop from a page-specific one, and protects pages that convert or hold links. Without the export this section reads NOT CHECKED and says why.
AI readiness, when it applies
Every run asks one question: does the site use AI to make or influence decisions about people, or to generate content shown to customers? If so, the report gains a section that lists what to check and the questions for a licensed professional. It returns only Not verified or Needs expert review, never a pass.

Handed a GEO or AEO vendor’s proposal, Site Check quotes each promise, tags it vendor claim, and grades it supported, unsupported or contradicted by what the run found and by what the engines publish about their own features.

The commands

/site-check
The full check on a site or landing page, with the citation gap leading the summary. It asks what you want to know, whether the site is new or existing, and whether it uses AI to make decisions about people or to generate content shown to customers. The report and the panel file are filed in your project.
/aeo-baseline
The AI answers baseline and the citation gap alone, with the panel file saved so you can re-run it later. /geo-check runs the same check under the name many people use for it.
/aeo-recheck
The re-run. Give it the earlier report and its panel file. /geo-recheck runs the same command.
/page-claims
The claim ledger alone for one page, when you only need to know which claims hold.

Lost? Type /bb, or /next for where the project stands.

What you get

Markdown files in your project folder, filed by date and site. This is the layout of a report. It contains no findings; those come from your site.

Layout of a report. Illustrative, no findings.
PartWhat it holds
Why AI assistants are not citing youThe first block of the summary. The causes found, counted per question, and the top fixes.
Summary tableOne verdict per section, and the overall verdict. The overall verdict is the worst section verdict. NOT CHECKED carries into it, so a report cannot read as a pass because something did not run.
AI answers: baseline and citation gapFor each question: mention and citation, the sources cited instead of you, and the cause with its evidence.
FindingsEach finding carries the URL where it was read, the raw evidence, a step another person can run to reproduce it, and the date. A finding missing a field is not reported. The check reads NOT CHECKED instead.
Claim ledgerOne row per claim: the claim quoted, the URL, the tag, the source and the read date.
Fix listNumbered, addressed to whoever built the site, ordered by what each fix prevents. Each item names the change and the re-check that proves it. AI-related fixes also name the questions they target and their cause. A change that alters what is public or removes a file is marked owner decision, and a rollback copy comes first.
Panel fileThe frozen set of questions, engines, market, language, competitors and repeat minimum, with the baseline results. A changed panel is a new version and a new baseline.
Questions for a licensed professionalWritten so a lawyer, accountant, accessibility specialist or privacy specialist who never saw the report could answer them.
DisclosureA line stating that an AI model helped produce the report and that it is not legal, tax or financial advice.
A pass means no confident weakness was found against the checks that ran. It is not a guarantee of ranking, citation, traffic or sales, and a check that did not run says so.

Before you see it, the report goes to a verifier running in a fresh context. Confirmed findings get fixed. Judgment calls are listed for you.

See a sample report. It is a real run of Site Check 0.2.0 on backbrief.ai, Backbrief’s own site, dated 2026-10-13. It shows the citation gap and names the saved panel. The answer engine ran through a signed-in session, and the report says so. The recheck follows once the fixes are made.

What you need

Claude Code, installed and signed in. A project folder. A site that can be reached, or its files.

Claude Code is Anthropic’s coding assistant. It runs in a terminal or in the desktop app. You need no other accounts and no keys, and nothing here requires a paid SEO data subscription. Site Check runs on your own Claude Code access, whatever plan or billing it uses. For the AI answers, you name the engines to test. Site Check has no server and collects nothing; this website’s own collection is on the privacy page. A check that cannot run says so in the report.

Install: about two minutes. Unzip the download, open Claude Code in the folder and type read the README.md in this folder and install this for me. Claude asks for your project folder, copies the pieces, runs /verify-install and offers /setup. Then run /site-check with your URL.

Who it is for

For youif assistants answer your buyers’ questions with other people’s sites and you want to know why, or if you are about to pay for GEO or AEO work and want a baseline to measure it against. A freelancer, an agency, a template or an AI builder may have made the site. You work in Claude Code or will install it for this.

Not for you if you want someone to fix the site (the report names the fix, and you or your builder make it), if you want a promise of rankings or AI citations, or if you want a legal opinion on what your site must say. Site Check has no server, so it checks when you run it. It does not watch your site.

FAQ

Will it get my site ranked or cited by AI assistants?

It does not promise either. It finds why assistants are not citing your site today, hands your builder the fixes tied to those questions, and re-runs the same questions later so you can see what changed. Whether an assistant cites you afterward is the assistant’s decision, and the report shows movement without claiming the fixes caused it. It promises no ranking, citation, traffic or sales.

How does it decide why I am not cited?

It compares evidence for each question where an assistant cited someone else: whether the engines can reach your pages, whether a page of yours answers the question in a form an assistant can lift, whether the cited answers lean on third-party sources where you are absent, and whether an answer states something wrong about you. It names the cause it found and shows the evidence. It is a diagnosis from that evidence, not proof of how any assistant works.

What does the re-run show, and when should I run it?

It shows what moved between two sets of runs of the same questions, with mention and citation on their own rows. It labels a change “moved with” a fix and never “caused”. Engines change, so it flags a model or engine version change, drift in the panel, and too few repeats, and a run with too few repeats reads NOT CHECKED. The report suggests a re-run date, 30 days after the fixes by default. That is a product default, not a known interval for any engine to update. You choose when to run it.

Does it change my site or contact anyone?

No. It reads, and it queries the engines you name or records the answers you paste. Every change is a fix-list item for you or your builder, and any change that alters what is public is marked as your decision. The sources it finds are a research list. It contacts none of them.

What are AEO and GEO?

Names for the work of getting AI assistants to mention or cite a site: answer engine optimization and generative engine optimization. Many people use them for the same thing. Site Check measures where you stand and where the gaps are, and promises no placement.

What does NOT CHECKED mean?

A check could not run, and the report says why and what would run it. It is never a pass, and it carries into the overall verdict.

Does the AI readiness section tell me whether I comply with the law?

No. It lists what would need checking and returns Not verified or Needs expert review. It never returns a pass and never states what the law requires in a named place. Those points go to a licensed professional as questions.

Is this legal or financial advice?

No. Nothing Site Check produces is legal, financial, tax, insurance or investment advice. Every report is a draft for your review.

Can I use it for client work?

Yes. The reports you produce are yours to deliver. The product is licensed to one person, so a client who wants it in their own project needs their own license.

What if the download is broken?

Write to contact@ashecorp.com from the address you bought with. A person replies within five business days and makes it right: a fix, a fresh copy, or a refund if neither of those puts it right. Otherwise all sales are final.
